Parents Together

Helping shape support for parents, carers and families affected by Technology-Assisted Child Sexual Abuse (TACSA)

When a child experiences Technology-Assisted Child Sexual Abuse (TACSA), the impact is rarely felt by the child alone. Parents, carers and families are often left navigating shock, confusion, fear and uncertainty while trying to support the child they love.

At the Marie Collins Foundation, we know that parents and carers play a vital role in a child's recovery and often face their own challenges following TACSA.

Our group Parents Together brings the voices, experiences, perspectives and insights of parents and carers who have supported a child affected by TACSA, helping to shape our work and ensure the needs of families are reflected across what we do.

Why the group matters

No one understands the realities of supporting a child after TACSA better than those who have lived through it, or who are living through it with them.

Parents and carers have first-hand experience of the challenges families face following TACSA. Their perspectives can help identify what works well, where support falls short, and how services, resources and responses can be improved.

Parents and carers can provide insight into:

  • The challenges families face following discovery or disclosure.
  • Barriers to accessing support and information.
  • Interactions with schools, police, social care and other services.
  • The emotional impact on parents, carers, siblings and wider family members.
  • What helps families feel supported and what can cause further harm.
  • The resources, guidance and services families need.

By listening to parents and carers, we can ensure our work reflects the needs and experiences of families affected by TACSA and remains grounded in the realities of those directly affected.

What the group helps shape

Members of Parents Together help inform and influence a range of Marie Collins Foundation activities, including:

  • Parent and carer resources.
  • Information and guidance.
  • Service development and new support initiatives.
  • Research projects and consultations.
  • Policy and advocacy work.
  • Professional training and practice resources.
  • Awareness-raising and communications activities.

The group's insights will help us develop more informed, effective and family-centred resources, services and responses.
