Lived Experience Group

We put victims and survivors at the very heart of everything we do, and we believe that the best way to improve the response to victims and survivors of technology-assisted child sexual abuse is to listen to, and act on, the voices of those with lived experience.

Our Lived Experience Group is a small network of adult victims and survivors of child sexual abuse, co-ordinated by our Head of Advocacy, Rhiannon-Faye McDonald, who is herself a survivor. Members of the group have a wide range of different experiences including familial abuse, trafficking, image-based abuse, child sexual exploitation and technology-assisted abuse. What their collective expertise shows is that, while the type of the abuse may differ, there are many similarities in the tactics used by the perpetrator(s) to groom and manipulate victims, the silencers preventing victims from speaking out, and the impacts on the victim following the abuse.

Members of the group are passionate about using their experiences to help prevent other children from going through what they did. Their work is vital to what we do here at MCF. Their expertise guides us as we advocate for change at a local, national and international level in order to better support victims on their recovery journey.
